Vince looks shocked. An affair with Jack's wife? But he also looks guilty. He speaks up, "I didn't mean to betray his trust, but she is such an amazing woman, but Jack found out about a month ago, and for another couple of days we tried but it was too much guilt, knowing he knew. But I would NEVER kill him, I loved the guy despite what he thought of me.." Sobibor replies, "It's okay, I never said you would kill him, but his wife, tell me about Lucy, and what would bring her to have an affair." Vince tells about how they had a falling out 6 months ago and how Jack would always be working and when he got home he would emotionally detach from her. She needed contact so she did what she did with someone she trusted. After trying to take her out of the suspect list for another 5 minutes Sobibor calls it quits and goes to Lucy herself. She gets to the home and knocks on the door to be greeted by Lucy.
After coming in and being given a glass of water, Sobibor breaks the silence. "Lucy, I see you were a world-class athlete? What did you play?" A world class Baton thrower, quite the arm strength then. Lucy talks with Sobibor about her relationship with Jack and also with Vince. She says that what happened with Vince sent Jack into a rage, and that Vince seemed angry at him, angry enough to kill-. She is cut off by Sobibor getting a call. The detective says that Vince just turned himself in for the murder of Jack Morty. A loose cannon, a set-back, but a way to know the killer, he covered for someone he cares about, know to find out how they did it. She goes back up the roof above the now empty alley and revisits the scuffs in the brick and the metal, the metal is rounded and looks to be broken off something big, and she sees a fingerprint, bingo, but how did they do it.
Suddenly the idea hits her and she calls the detective, "Bring rope, Lucy, Vince, and a stuffed bag, also ask Lucy to bring her Baton." When everyone arrives the detective asks what this is all about. Sobibor starts with a question, "Lucy Morty, please hand me your Baton, and one question, where was your last tournament?" It is handed over and the location is revealed to be Volat City, 50 miles North of here. Sobibor solves the case, " The rope please, and place the bag down in the alley, as I wait for the bag I will tie this rope to me, and fasten it to the holes made under these bricks, and explain the case, Baton is one of the sports that to be a master of you must be able to throw from any angle and with great force, and that means even if suspended in mid-air. The dummy below serves as the victim, told to come here to talk by the killer, and when I--jump off this roof I get speed, and when I th--row the Baton it goes clean into the victim's head knocking him unconscious and splitting open the skull, allowing the blood to flow out, now this next part is where it gets tricky. The murderer then grabs the Baton and uses it to raise the victims feet to grab them so the blood flows out of the head ensuring the death. Now if you know batons, they are one of the few things in sports that are imprinted on the ends, often to signify perhaps where you one the Baton at, such as a V for Volat."
The Detective butts in, "Now this is a nice theory, but where is your proof?" Sobibor says the case closing words, "The metal on the ground there is from this Baton, likely broken on climbing back over the ledge, and if I am correct, Lucy's fingerprints should be on it, and the dried blood on this baton can be matched with Jack." Lucy is placed under arrest and Vince is let free, but the death of a man is no easy thing to live with, especially such a close friend.
When you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. CASE CLOSED!
CASE CLOSED! Nice job!
